Kerala to pay ₹10 lakh each to 17 families hit by Adimaly mudslide
The Kerala government will distribute ₹10 lakh as compensation to the families affected by the Adimaly mudslide before the Onam festival, Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar announced on Monday.
The Minister made the announcement after attending a revenue department review meeting at the Idukki Collectorate. The compensation will be given to 17 families whose homes were either destroyed or left at high risk of further landslides.
The mudslide occurred at Koompanpara on the Kochi–Dhanushkodi National Highway on the night of October 25, 2025. It claimed the life of Biju, a resident of Laksham Veedu Colony, and seriously injured his wife, Sandhya. Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors amputated Sandhya’s left leg on October 28, 2025.
Following the incident, the Revenue Department identified 27 families in the area living under imminent threat of further mudslides. Officials reported that nine homes were destroyed, while others remained at high risk. Authorities shifted the affected families to rented accommodations as a precautionary measure.
The department had earlier promised to provide up to ₹15,000 per month to cover rent. However, with rent payments severely delayed, the displaced families launched a protest demanding immediate release of rent dues and a comprehensive relief package.
The government had previously allotted ₹10 lakh each to families whose homes were completely demolished. The owners of the 17 threatened homes are now demanding the same compensation, which the District Collector had recommended in a detailed proposal submitted to the state government.
The Minister’s announcement has brought relief to the protesting families, who had been demanding compensation for the past month.
