Kerala to launch unified migrant worker database portal
The Kerala government will launch a single portal to consolidate all data about migrant workers currently scattered across various departments, Labour Minister Bindu Krishna announced. The minister noted that while migrant workers frequently arrive and leave the state, there is no reliable data on their numbers. The Labour department, in coordination with other agencies and the IT department, is developing this integrated platform.
Addressing security concerns for migrant workers, the minister said the department has rolled out the 'Har din surakshit' (Everyday Safe) initiative. This programme provides safety training in Hindi, as many migrant workers are more comfortable with Hindi than Malayalam or English. The state-level inauguration of the training programme will be held soon in Kollam district.
In a separate move, the government is planning to create rest areas with seating and charging stations for gig workers, including autorickshaw drivers. The facilities will initially come up in the state's three main cities, with locations already identified, the minister added.
