Kerala Orders Probe into RSS Leader's Remarks on Jantar Mantar Protest Handling
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered a police investigation into allegedly objectionable remarks made by RSS leader T G Mohandas concerning a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. The protest demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET question paper leak.
A video circulating online shows Mohandas purportedly stating that if he were responsible for managing the protest, he would impose a curfew in the area. According to the video, he said: 'The crowd would be asked to disperse. The announcement would be made three times through public address systems. Then, there would be firing. People will run in a chaotic and hurried manner. Some people will die, others will get injured. Within four hours, the situation will be under control. The bodies will be moved to hospital.'
The remarks have sparked political controversy. Kerala's government, led by the Left Democratic Front, has directed the state police to examine the video and take appropriate legal action if laws were violated. The RSS has not officially commented on the matter. The probe will assess whether the statements amount to incitement or hate speech under Indian law.
The Jantar Mantar protest in question was part of a series of demonstrations by students and activists over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, which led to demands for the education minister's resignation. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between various political groups over exam reforms and protest management.
