Karnataka's 50% fine waiver clears over 5.54 lakh traffic e-challans, nets ₹16.64 crore
More than 5.54 lakh pending traffic e-challan cases have been resolved across Karnataka since the state government introduced a 50% concession on traffic fines, resulting in the collection of over ₹16.64 crore in revenue, according to traffic police data.
Between June 21 and July 3, 2026, a total of 5,54,890 traffic violation cases were disposed of through various payment modes, the department said. During this period, it collected ₹16,64,53,950 in fines.
The scheme, which came into effect on June 21, 2026, applies to pending traffic e-challan cases registered by the Police Department. It was launched to encourage motorists to clear long-pending violations while reducing the backlog of unpaid e-challans.
Police officials noted that the public response has been encouraging, with lakhs of motorists availing themselves of the concession to settle their dues. They urged vehicle owners with pending e-challans to use the concession within the stipulated period.
The initiative reflects the government's effort to balance enforcement with leniency, ensuring that traffic rules are followed while providing relief to violators. The waiver does not apply to new violations committed after the scheme's announcement.
