Karnataka Launches Door-to-Door Verification for Free Electricity Scheme Beneficiaries

The Karnataka government has initiated a statewide drive to verify beneficiaries of the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides up to 200 units of free electricity per household. The verification process began on Wednesday and will be conducted by staff from all five electricity supply companies in the state: Bescom, Mescom, Hescom, Gescom, and CESC.

According to a government order, personnel will visit households to collect additional documents to confirm eligibility. Documents such as ration cards, beneficiary category details, and information on whether the beneficiary is an income tax payer will be uploaded to the Seva Sindhu portal as part of the verification process.

The Gruha Jyothi scheme is one of the five guarantees promised by the Congress party during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. The drive aims to curb misuse and ensure that only eligible households receive the benefit.
