Karan Johar Says 'Winner Won't Be a Hack' in Swipe at Rigged Reality Shows
Mumbai: The 21 contestants of The Traitors Season 2 were unveiled at a grand launch event in Mumbai on Thursday. The show's host and producer, Karan Johar, used the occasion to address the growing debate over the credibility of reality show winners, taking a veiled swipe at shows that have faced rigging allegations.
Johar, who returns as the face of the Indian adaptation of the international hit format, made his stance clear while promising a more intense second season. He said, “This season I won’t be forgiving, but more ruthless. And we will never ever forget to be entertaining. It’s the modus operandi for any popular show. I am proud that Traitors is in its second season. If there is a season 2, it only says how popular season 1 must have been.”
The filmmaker's remarks were widely interpreted as a dig at Ekta Kapoor's reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, which has been criticised in the past over the credibility of its results. While Johar did not name any specific show or individual, his pointed comment about the winner not being a “hack” was seen as a direct reference to the controversies surrounding other reality series.
The Traitors, which debuted last year to positive reviews, is built around a group of contestants who must work together to complete tasks and earn prize money. Among them, a few are secretly designated as 'traitors', with the objective of eliminating the 'faithful' contestants without being detected.
