J&K: Two Terrorist Associates Arrested in Pulwama Forest, Arms Seized

Security forces on Tuesday arrested two suspected terrorist associates in a forest area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The arrests are seen as a step toward disrupting terror networks in the region.

Acting on coordinated security inputs, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the general Yarwan forest area of CB Nath, Rajpora. The joint team comprised personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

During the operation, the security forces noticed two individuals emerging from the forest toward CB Nath village in a suspicious manner. The alert teams swiftly moved in and apprehended both individuals. They were identified as Latif Ahmad Deedad and Aejaz Ahmad Bajad.

Upon searching them, one pistol, 12 pistol rounds, and one hand grenade were recovered from their possession. The officials said the suspects were taken into custody and have been identified as overground workers (OGWs) of terrorists.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain their activities, establish the source of the recovered arms and ammunition, and identify further linkages.

The arrests come within hours of security forces detaining three suspected OGWs in the neighbouring Shopian district on Monday. Officials described these operations as part of sustained efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

The recovery of arms and the apprehension of suspected associates is considered significant in preventing potential attacks and disturbing public order. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activity to help security forces combat terrorism.
