Jharkhand CID Arrests Govt Employee in Alleged Rs 40 Crore Exam Scam

The Jharkhand Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Abhay Kumar Tiwari, a state government employee, in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). According to the CID, Tiwari is suspected to be the mastermind behind an organised syndicate involved in paper leaks.

The agency has claimed that the alleged racket involved financial transactions amounting to nearly Rs 40 crore. Candidates are said to have paid large sums of money in exchange for unfair advantages in the recruitment process. Investigators are now working to trace the money trail and identify all individuals who benefited from or facilitated the alleged malpractice.

The arrest has also brought Tiwari's own examination record under scrutiny. CID officials said he cleared 12 competitive examinations over the past 13 years. Investigators are examining whether any of those successes were linked to the alleged scam. His selection history, including appointments and postings, is being reviewed as part of the broader investigation.

The CID further alleged that Tiwari operated a network involving multiple individuals accused of leaking question papers, manipulating recruitment examinations, and collecting money from candidates. The agency has stated that it is committed to unearthing the full extent of the network and determining the role of every suspect. So far, 19 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

The arrest comes amid ongoing student protests in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations. Protesting candidates have been demanding a fair and transparent investigation, as well as strict action against those found responsible. They have also called for reforms in the recruitment process to prevent future instances of malpractice.

Authorities have assured the public that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly. The CID has said that it is gathering evidence from multiple sources, including digital records, financial transactions, and testimonies of those arrested. The agency has also appealed to candidates and the public to share any relevant information that could aid the probe.

This case highlights broader concerns about the integrity of competitive examinations in India. Several states have witnessed similar scandals in recent years, leading to demands for better security measures, use of technology, and stricter punishments for those involved in paper leaks.
