JDU Leaders Hail Nishant Kumar as Party's Future at Key Meeting

The Janata Dal (United) held meetings of its state and national councils on Sunday to formally endorse Umesh Kushwaha as state president and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as national president. During the proceedings, top party leaders unanimously declared through a voice vote that Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar, is the “future of the party”.

The meetings were attended by senior JDU leaders including national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Deputy Chief Ministers Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary, party leader in the Assembly Shravan Kumar, and Health Minister Nishant Kumar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attended only the national council meeting.

This development comes amid ongoing discussions about leadership succession within the party. Party leaders highlighted Nishant Kumar’s role in the health department and his growing involvement in organisational matters. However, no formal announcement regarding a specific leadership role was made.

The endorsement of Nishant Kumar as the party’s future leader reflects a generational shift within the JDU, which has been led by Nitish Kumar for decades. The party has not officially commented on any timeline for succession.
