Jamia Student Detention Claims Surface as Police Verify 150 Persons Held During Security Checks

On Saturday (July 25, 2026), several posts on social media platform X claimed that students from Jamia Millia Islamia were detained by Delhi Police while returning from a protest at Jantar Mantar. The posts alleged that the students were taken into custody after attending a demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Police sources, however, stated that around 150 individuals were detained from various locations on Friday (July 24, 2026) night as part of routine security checks. Their identities and backgrounds are currently being verified. A police source clarified, “It was too early to confirm whether those taken into custody included Jamia students.” Authorities are examining the details of each detainee before releasing them.

The claims have circulated widely, with many social media users seeking information about the alleged detentions. Security remained tight across Delhi on Saturday, with heavy police deployment and checks in sensitive areas to maintain law and order.
