Jadeja and Bumrah return to India Test squad for Sri Lanka, Saransh Jain earns maiden call-up

The national selectors on Monday announced a 15-member Indian Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, starting August 15. The squad sees the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and veteran spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, both of whom have been out of action since November 2025.

Bumrah's inclusion is subject to fitness clearance after he sustained an injury during the recent three-match ODI series in England. Jadeja, 37, makes a comeback after recovering from a tennis elbow injury that kept him out since the IPL 2026 season.

The left-arm spinner is expected to lead the spin attack alongside wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and left-arm spinner Manav Suthar. The squad also features uncapped off-spinner Saransh Jain, who receives his maiden Test call-up.

Young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel and fast bowler Mukesh Kumar have retained their places after being part of the squad for the home series against New Zealand. The squad is captained by Shubman Gill, who will aim to revive India's ICC World Test Championship campaign following a disappointing home season last year.

India suffered a 0-2 series defeat to South Africa in November-December 2025, including a record 408-run loss in the second Test in Guwahati — their heaviest defeat in the format. That result pushed India down the WTC standings, making the Sri Lanka series crucial for their final hopes.

The squad: Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
