Iran warns of regional oil blockade if Tehran sanctioned; Strait of Hormuz security in focus

Iran's top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, issued a stern warning on Wednesday, stating that no country would be able to export oil from the region if Iran is blocked from selling its own crude. He also cautioned that if Tehran's security is compromised, no regional infrastructure would remain safe.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ghalibaf said, 'The equation of this war is clear: either all or none.' He further asserted that the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, depends on the absence of American forces in the area.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly over Washington's renewed sanctions on Tehran's oil exports. Ghalibaf's statements signal a potential escalation in the ongoing standoff, threatening to disrupt global energy markets.

Observers note that while Iran has made similar threats in the past, the timing of this warning aligns with reports of increased US naval presence in the Persian Gulf.
