IPS Trainee Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment of Fellow Trainee at Hyderabad Academy
The Hyderabad police have arrested M Uday Krishna Reddy, a trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, on charges of sexually harassing a fellow IPS trainee, senior officials confirmed on Tuesday. Both the complainant and the accused were undergoing training at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad.
According to the complaint filed on July 18, the woman trainee accused Reddy of sending her “sexually abusive messages” via WhatsApp and making derogatory comments about her in front of other trainees. The alleged harassment began on June 23, the complainant stated. Reddy has denied the allegations, his lawyer said.
Reddy, who previously served as a constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police, resigned in 2019 and cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2024. His achievement of becoming an IPS officer from a constable background was widely covered in the media, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also congratulating him.
The NPA administration has extended full cooperation to the police investigation. The case highlights the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment within training institutions.
