IPS Trainee Accused of Harassment, Hospitalised After Alleged Substance Consumption

A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad has been accused of sexual harassment by a fellow trainee. The accused, M Uday Krishna Reddy, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital after allegedly consuming an unknown substance.

Police registered a case against Reddy on Sunday under charges including stalking, assault, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of a woman. Reddy has denied the allegations.

On Monday, Reddy allegedly attempted suicide, according to police. 'The incident happened at his brother's house in Hyderabad,' a senior police officer said.

Before his selection as an IPS officer, Reddy served as a constable with the Andhra Pradesh Police, resigning in 2019. He cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2024, a journey that received media attention. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had congratulated him on his achievement.

The investigation into the harassment complaint is ongoing. No further details about the alleged suicide attempt have been released.
