India's Neeru Dhanda Makes History with First Women's Trap Gold at ISSF World Cup

Neeru Dhanda, a 26-year-old shooter from Haryana's Jind district, created history on Sunday by winning India's first-ever gold medal in the women's trap event at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy.

Dhanda's performance ended India's 16-year wait for an individual medal at a World Cup stage in this discipline. The previous best was Seema Tomar's silver medal in 2010. Dhanda, the reigning national champion, missed only three shots in the eight-shooter final to secure the top spot.

France's Carole Cormenier, a former world champion, won the silver with 25 hits, while Italy's Erica Sessa claimed the bronze. Dhanda's gold is the biggest achievement of her career, surpassing her Asian Championships gold last year and a mixed team bronze at the ISSF World Cup in Almaty.

This victory underscores India's growing prowess in shooting sports and marks a significant milestone for women's trap shooting in the country.
