Indian Student Found Dead in London Under Unclear Circumstances
A 25-year-old Indian student was found dead in London last week, a day after attending a birthday party. The official cause of death has not been confirmed, though his roommate reportedly claimed the student died by hanging.
S Srinath Reddy, a resident of Kamareddy district in Telangana, had moved to London 14 months ago to pursue a master's degree at De Montfort University in Leicester. His father, Madhusudan Reddy, told reporters in Talamadla village that the family had taken an education loan and borrowed money from relatives to fund his son's studies abroad.
Reddy's body was discovered by his roommate on Tuesday morning, according to a relative who also lives in London. The relative told PTI that the roommate informed Reddy's friends about his death much later. The roommate alleged that Reddy had died by hanging, but the student's father said the circumstances surrounding his son's death remain unknown.
Madhusudan Reddy stated that he spoke to his son the night before he was found dead. The conversation was 'normal,' he said, adding that his son had reportedly attended a birthday party that evening. The family has urged both the central and state governments to help bring the body back to India.
A crowdfunding campaign has been started on GoFundMe to assist the family in covering the costs of repatriating the body and performing final rites. The campaign notes that Reddy came from a humble background and that his family is struggling to manage the expenses.
Authorities in London have not released further details about the investigation. The Indian High Commission in the UK has been contacted for consular assistance.
