Indian Railways Completes Modernisation of 10 Stations Under Amrit Bharat Scheme at Rs 424 Crore
Indian Railways has completed the redevelopment of 10 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a total cost of Rs 424.02 crore. These stations are located in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Launched in 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims at the comprehensive development and upgradation of railway stations across the Indian Railways network. The scheme involves creating master plans, promoting multimodal connectivity, and improving station accessibility for passengers.
Among the redeveloped stations, the 110-year-old Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station in Punjab has been modernised at a cost of Rs 125 crore. The station now features a double-height air concourse, heavy steel platform roofing, slip-resistant flooring, energy-efficient LED lighting, and improved connectivity with entry points from both sides of the city. Two new foot over bridges, with widths of 6 metres and 9 metres, have been constructed. The station also includes a 40-metre-wide trough roof covering 200 metres of platform length, spread across 8,720 square metres, and a 36-metre-wide air concourse spanning 1,770 square metres. A new second entry with a 300 square metre station building and a 4,855 square metre parking area have been added.
In Maharashtra, the Baramati railway station has been redeveloped at a cost of Rs 11.40 crore. The station, which serves around 1,800 passengers daily and handles eight passenger train services, was originally opened as a narrow-gauge station in 1914. Upgrades include improvement of the main station building, a new entrance gate, development of the circulating area, upgraded parking, new toilet blocks, modernisation of the VIP lounge and waiting hall, platform covers, improved platform surfaces, modern signages, enhanced drinking water facilities, and amenities for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).
The Nandura railway station, also in Maharashtra, has been redeveloped at a cost of Rs 10.63 crore. Located on the Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai main line, it handles an average daily footfall of 4,545 passengers and caters to 26 trains daily. New facilities include a booking office with four counters, a passenger waiting hall, separate toilets for men, women, and Divyangjan, and a covered entrance porch. The circulating area has been improved with a new 9-metre-wide entrance and exit gate, a 1,307 square metre parking area, and a boundary wall. Passenger amenities have been enhanced with renovated waiting rooms, modern toilet blocks, vitrified flooring, contemporary ceiling finishes, an air-conditioned waiting room, drinking water coolers, and new platform shelters.
The redevelopment projects under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aim to provide a better travel experience for passengers by modernising infrastructure and improving facilities at stations across the country.
