Indian high jumper Sarvesh Kushare wins silver at Commonwealth Games

Indian national record holder Sarvesh Anil Kushare won the silver medal in the men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Monday. He cleared 2.25 metres to finish second, securing his first major multi-sport medal.

Kushare, who set a new national record of 2.31 metres at the Inter State Athletics Championships last month, cleared the 2.25-metre mark on his final attempt. However, he could not clear 2.28 metres in three attempts, which would have secured the gold.

Jamaica's Romaine Beckford also failed to clear 2.28 metres in three attempts, but he took the gold medal by virtue of having cleared 2.25 metres on his first attempt, compared to Kushare's third-attempt clearance.

Kushare's silver betters the bronze medal won by compatriot Tejaswin Shankar in the previous edition of the Commonwealth Games. The Indian contingent has so far collected multiple medals in athletics events.
