Indian Film Professionals Invited to Join Academy, Gain Oscar Voting Rights

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has extended invitations to 529 film professionals worldwide to become members, granting them the opportunity to vote in the Academy Awards. Among the invitees are 95 Oscar nominees, including 21 winners, and three Scientific and Technical Award recipients.

Several Indian film professionals have been invited this year. Filmmaker-composer Vishal Bhardwaj, editor Deepa Bhatia, and costume designer Eka Lakhani are among those who will now have voting rights in the Oscars. Other notable Indian invitees include casting director Dilip Shankar, National Award-winning editor A. Sreekar Prasad, animation artist Avneet Kaur, production and technology experts Farah Khan and Rajesh Ramachandran, and visual effects professionals Becky Graham and Jay Mehta.

The Academy's membership is considered a mark of recognition in the film industry. Invitations are based on professional achievements and contributions to the field. The new members will join the Academy's various branches, including actors, producers, directors, documentary and short filmmakers, writers, film editors, costume designers, musicians, casting directors, cinematographers, makeup artists and hairstylists, visual effects and production technology professionals, production designers, sound designers, and marketing and public relations executives.

India's presence in the Academy has grown in recent years, reflecting the global reach of its cinema. The inclusion of these professionals highlights the diversity and talent within the Indian film industry.
