India vs Zimbabwe 1st T20I: Shreyas Iyer seeks first win as captain, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in spotlight

India face Zimbabwe in the first T20I of a three-match series at Harare Sports Club on Thursday, with captain Shreyas Iyer aiming for his maiden win as leader of the side. The team looks to recover from recent white-ball losses, having been whitewashed 2-0 by Ireland and 4-0 by England in Iyer's previous two series.

Regular opener Sanju Samson has been rested, giving 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi an extended opportunity. Sooryavanshi made his debut against England, scoring 13, 14, and 15 before being omitted from the final match. He will bat alongside Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, the latter having struggled for form in challenging conditions.

India's inexperienced bowling attack – featuring Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, and Harsh Dubey – faces a tough test against a Zimbabwe side comfortable in home conditions. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza leads a squad that includes experienced players like Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava.

The match is being broadcast live on Unite8 Sports TV channels and streamed on the FanCode app and website. The series marks Iyer's third as full-time T20 captain, having taken over from Suryakumar Yadav.

India's probable XI includes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Harsh Dubey, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi. Zimbabwe's probable XI is Brian Bennett, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani or Tafadzwa Tsiga, Dion Myers, Sikandar Raza (captain), Ryan Burl, Milton Shumba, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri, Richard Ngarava, and Blessing Muzarabani.

In head-to-head T20I records, India have won 11 of 14 matches, with Zimbabwe winning three. No ties or no-results have been recorded.

The match begins at 3:40 PM IST. Follow live updates for ball-by-ball commentary.
