India Rejects Pakistan's 'Baseless' Allegations in Karachi Attack; Other Top Stories

India on Sunday (June 28, 2026) firmly rejected allegations from Pakistan linking New Delhi to an attack on a military base in Karachi that killed at least four paramilitary personnel. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X: 'We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. We categorically reject them.' The denial comes amid heightened tensions between the two neighbours, with no further details provided by either side.

In a separate development, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk began a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, joining the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Since June 20, the CJP has been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations. Hundreds of youths and students gathered at the site, along with farmer leaders, as Mr. Wangchuk commenced his fast with a two-minute silence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, focusing on maritime security and economic cooperation in the Indian Ocean. 'Our vision is to make the Indian Ocean an Ocean of Opportunity,' Mr. Modi said, emphasising mutual respect and trust. The leaders reviewed bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

In the ongoing investigation into the death of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal, police took accused Siya Goyal to Lohagad Fort to recreate the crime scene. The exercise aims to reconstruct the events of June 18, when Agarwal was allegedly pushed to his death by Ms. Goyal and her associate Chetan Chaudhary.

The Congress party criticised the VB-G RAM G Act, calling it a substitute for MGNREGA that will centralise funds and strain state finances. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Modi government of bulldozing the repeal without proper consultation with stakeholders.
