India backs Palestine's UN membership, reiterates two-state solution
India has expressed its support for Palestine's bid for full membership in the United Nations, reaffirming its commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The position was conveyed by Sripriya Ranganathan, a secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, during a ministerial meeting of the Palestine Donor Group held in Brussels on Monday.
New Delhi has consistently backed a vision of two states—Israel and Palestine—living side by side in peace and security within recognised borders, in line with international law. At the meeting, Ranganathan emphasised India's longstanding partnership with the Palestinian people and reiterated continued support for both a two-state solution and Palestine's UN membership, according to an official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
She also highlighted India's ongoing developmental assistance to Palestine, including capacity-building programmes and humanitarian aid. India's projects are demand-driven and focus on healthcare, education, vocational training, and institution building, the statement noted. Ranganathan announced several new projects in rehabilitation, health, education, and vocational training, underscoring India's commitment to Palestine's development.
