India at Commonwealth Games 2026: Day 5 Results – Silver for Gyaneshwari, Boxers and Athletes Advance
India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continued on Monday with weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav winning a silver medal in the women’s 53kg event. Bindyarani Devi added a bronze in the same category, contributing to the country’s medal tally.
In athletics, M Sreeshankar qualified for the men’s long jump final with a leap of 8.01 metres, meeting the automatic qualifying mark in his first attempt. Fellow Indian Lokesh Sathyanathan also advanced, recording a best effort of 7.77 metres to place among the top-12 qualifiers across both groups.
Indian boxers had a productive day, with former world youth champion Sachin Siwach entering the quarterfinals of the men’s 60kg category. Youngster Ankush also progressed to the quarterfinals in the men’s 80kg event, placing both athletes within one victory of securing a medal.
However, there was disappointment in the men’s 100 metres, where national record holder Gurindervir Singh failed to advance beyond the heats. He clocked 10.39 seconds to finish second in his heat behind Jamaica’s Rohan Watson, but finished 28th overall, missing the qualification places.
The Indian contingent will aim to build on these results as the competition continues.
