IMD Predicts Heavy Rains in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Until July 9: Residents Advised to Stay Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a forecast for a fresh spell of enhanced rainfall across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, expected to continue until July 9. The weather department has warned of heavy showers at isolated locations and urged residents to remain cautious.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places during this period, with heavy rainfall of 7 cm or more expected at isolated spots over northern and eastern Punjab, northern and southern Haryana, and Chandigarh. This comes after isolated heavy rainfall was recorded in Punjab and light to moderate showers in scattered parts of Haryana over the past 24 hours.

The IMD cautioned that the heavy rain could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, disruption of civic services, and damage to harvested crops stored in the open. Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged areas, stay away from weak structures and water bodies, and not take shelter under trees during thunderstorms. The department also urged people to follow official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and seek shelter during thunderstorms.
