IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad as Monsoon Showers Expected from Monday
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts, predicting moderate showers along with thunderstorms from Monday. Residents can expect some relief from the ongoing heat as increased rainfall activity is forecast across the region.
While the normal date for monsoon onset in Mumbai is June 11, the southwest monsoon has not yet arrived, leaving the city parched. The delay in pre-monsoon showers has resulted in a significant rain deficit. According to IMD data, the Santacruz observatory is facing a rain deficit of 293 per cent, while the Colaba coastal observatory has recorded a deficit of 304 per cent.
The yellow alert indicates that the weather is likely to worsen, and residents should be cautious. Moderate rain and thunderstorms may lead to localised waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Authorities have advised people to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
The IMD continues to monitor the monsoon progression and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
