IMD Issues Red Alert for Pune Ghats: Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall Predicted
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the ghat regions of Pune, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas, with extremely heavy rain expected in isolated pockets on June 22.
While a yellow alert remains in effect for Pune city, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places on Wednesday, an orange alert has been issued for Konkan and Goa, indicating isolated very heavy rain. Similar conditions are predicted for the ghats of Nashik, Satara, and Kolhapur.
On Tuesday, residents across Pune experienced a rainy morning. In the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday morning, the Shivajinagar observatory recorded 1.9 mm of rainfall, Koregaon Park 2 mm, Pashan 3.4 mm, and NDA 6.5 mm. As rain continued through the day, by evening, Chinchwad had recorded 16 mm, Pashan 14.8 mm, Shivajinagar 12.9 mm, and Koregaon Park 8 mm within nine hours.
