IIT Madras Awards 3,518 Degrees at 63rd Convocation; Zanzibar Campus Achieves 100% Placements for MTech Batch

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras conferred 3,518 degrees to 3,106 students during its 63rd Convocation ceremony held on campus on Friday. The event was presided over by Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, who served as the chief guest.

The graduating cohort comprised 812 BTech, 302 Dual Degree BTech, 617 MTech, 201 MS, 143 MSc, 123 MA, 84 MBA, 53 Executive MBA, and 32 PG Diploma students. Additionally, 511 doctoral degrees were awarded, including 16 joint PhDs in collaboration with foreign universities.

The convocation also highlighted the institute's growing international footprint through the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, India's first overseas IIT campus. According to the Director's Report, the campus currently has 130 students, with 51% from Tanzania and the rest from countries including Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and India. Notably, the MTech batch at the Zanzibar campus recorded 100% placements.

During the ceremony, the institute unveiled the layout of the IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus, marking a significant step in its expansion plans. The campus aims to provide quality technical education to students from Africa and beyond, fostering cross-border academic collaboration.

IIT Madras continues to be a leading institution in higher education and research in India, with its convocation serving as a milestone for graduating students entering various professional fields.
