IIT Kanpur Achieves 80% Overall Placement Rate; Non-Tech Department Hits 100%
Around 80 per cent of students registered for placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur secured jobs during the 2024-25 placement season, according to the institute’s Students’ Placement Office (SPO). As of May 18, 2025, 1,225 of the 1,530 registered students had been placed, including 200 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and 29 international offers.
The placement data also reveals that a significant number of graduating students chose higher studies or entrepreneurship over campus recruitment, contributing to the overall placement figures. The institute's annual report, released late last year, noted that more than 455 recruiters participated across two phases of the placement drive, offering opportunities across sectors such as technology, consulting, finance, manufacturing, research, and core engineering.
The placement season began with Phase 1 in December 2024, during which 75 companies offered 115 job profiles on the first day alone, resulting in 595 offers, including PPOs, of which 533 were accepted by students. The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department recorded a 97% placement rate, while a non-technology department achieved a 100% placement rate. The SPO did not disclose the specific non-tech department, but noted that it was among several that performed exceptionally well.
IIT Kanpur continues to attract top recruiters, with the 2024-25 season seeing participation from leading firms across multiple industries. The institute's placement office emphasised that the figures are provisional and subject to final verification.
