Hyderabad B.Tech Student Dies by Suicide, Family Cites Exam Stress as Trigger
A 21-year-old final-year B.Tech student was found dead at his residence in Hyderabad's Suchitra area on July 13. The family has stated that he was under depression due to fear of failing two subjects in his semester examinations.
The deceased, identified as Rahul, was pursuing his engineering degree at a college in Madhapur and lived with his mother and sister in an apartment in Godavari Homes, Suchitra.
According to the Petbasheerabad police, Rahul stayed home to study on the evening of July 13 while his mother and sister visited a temple. When they returned at around 9.55 p.m., they received no response after knocking, and with the help of neighbours, broke open the door. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan.
The family and neighbours rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
In their statement to the police, the family said Rahul had been struggling with depression due to the fear of failing two subjects in his recent semester examinations, which they believe led to the extreme step.
The Petbasheerabad police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances. The incident highlights the intense academic pressures that students often face, which can take a severe toll on mental health.
