HPCL, IOCL Launch 5kg and 10kg LPG Cylinders: Lighter, Transparent, and Delivered Fast
Oil marketing companies HPCL and IOCL have introduced new composite liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in smaller sizes, offering consumers lighter and more convenient options. HPCL has launched the HP Navya cylinders in 5 kg and 10 kg variants in Chennai, while IOCL has rolled out its Indane XTRALITE NOW service with express delivery across the country, including Coimbatore.
HPCL's HP Navya cylinders are made of composite materials, making them significantly lighter than traditional steel cylinders. They are corrosion-free and feature a transparent strip that allows users to see the remaining gas level, enhancing safety and convenience. Initially, these cylinders will be available through three authorised agencies in Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, and Adambakkam areas of Chennai, with plans to expand to other regions in phases.
According to a company official, the new cylinders are easier to handle, especially for the elderly and women. The current prices are ₹3,500 for a 5 kg cylinder and ₹5,002 for a 10 kg cylinder. HPCL also plans to make them available through online delivery apps soon.
Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has launched the Indane XTRALITE NOW service, offering 5 kg and 10 kg LPG cylinders with express delivery and minimal documentation. Customers can register for new connections and book refills through the IndianOil ONE App or the IndianOil Customer website. A WhatsApp booking facility (7588888824) is being introduced shortly.
These launches aim to address the needs of consumers who require smaller quantities of LPG, such as those living in smaller households, rental accommodations, or areas where storage space is limited. The introduction of lighter cylinders also enhances safety during handling and transportation.
The move comes as part of ongoing efforts by oil companies to improve customer convenience and expand access to clean cooking fuel across India. Both HPCL and IOCL are state-owned enterprises, and these initiatives align with the government's push for universal access to LPG under schemes like Ujjwala.
