Home Minister Amit Shah Meets US Envoy, Discusses Security Cooperation
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah met United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi on Thursday, with the two officials discussing ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, particularly in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics.
The meeting came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held talks on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah said, “Met U.S. Ambassador to India, Mr. Sergio Gor in New Delhi today. Had a detailed discussion on further strengthening cooperation between India and the U.S. in the area of security, particularly in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics.”
He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is committed to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and ensuring that the people of both nations benefit from the bilateral relationship.
Ambassador Gor, in his post on X, termed the meeting “excellent” and said, “We had a fruitful discussion on enhancing collaboration to combat terrorism, shield our people from narcotics and illicit drugs, secure our borders, and jointly bring criminals to justice in both nations.”
In a separate post, Gor noted, “Back in New Delhi after a great trip to the G7 in France. Lots of positive outcomes between the United States and India!”
The meeting followed the Modi-Trump encounter at the G7, where the two leaders discussed repairing bilateral ties that had experienced strain over the previous year. During that meeting, PM Modi also raised the issue of seafarers’ safety, urging that their protection be prioritised in the implementation of Washington’s peace deal with Iran.
The discussions between Shah and Gor reflect a continued effort by both nations to deepen security cooperation, a key pillar of the India-US strategic partnership.
