Himachal Sees 24,000 Students Shift to Government Schools After CBSE Adoption

Nearly 24,000 students who were previously enrolled in private schools have moved to government schools in Himachal Pradesh this academic year, the state government announced. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attributed the shift to the state-wide adoption of the CBSE curriculum and ongoing reforms aimed at improving the quality of public education.

Speaking at an event in Nagrota Bagwan, Sukhu said that government schools would undergo a complete transformation over the next two to four years. He highlighted that the students have enrolled in around 150 government schools following the curriculum change, a trend the government sees as a sign of growing trust in the public school system.

The move is part of broader efforts by the Himachal Pradesh government to strengthen school education. Officials say the adoption of the CBSE syllabus has made government schools more competitive with private institutions, while infrastructure upgrades and teacher training programs are also underway.

While the Chief Minister did not provide a timeline for specific reforms, he assured that the government is committed to making public schools a viable option for all families. The development comes amid a national push to enhance the quality of government-run schools under the National Education Policy 2020.
