Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides and Floods Across Multiple Indian States

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday reviewed the state's monsoon preparedness after heavy rain triggered landslides, flash floods, and localised flooding in 32 villages. The current spell of rain, which began in the first week of July, has damaged roads and infrastructure in several areas. Landslides, landslips, flash floods, and localised flooding have been reported from 32 villages, officials said.

In Shimla's Sanjauli area, continuous heavy rainfall on Saturday triggered a major landslide scare. Residents of Bothwell Estate were forced to remain outdoors since around 3 a.m. amid fears that their houses could collapse. Nearly 10 houses have been affected, with at least three homes facing an immediate threat due to the landslip.

Heavy to very heavy rain lashed parts of India on Saturday, with Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh among the worst-hit. Landslides blocked roads and disrupted public life. In Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall triggered landslides that blocked 120 roads, including three national highways. Around 100 pilgrims were escorted to safety across a washed-out stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway, authorities said.
