Heavy Rains Lash Surat and Navsari: Three Dead, Hundreds Displaced

Heavy rainfall continued to batter parts of Gujarat's Surat and Navsari districts on Tuesday, leading to three more fatalities and forcing the relocation of hundreds of residents, officials said.

The deceased include an 11-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman. In Surat's Katargam area, Rishita Mistry, 22, was struck by lightning while on the terrace of a residential building, according to police. She was declared dead on the spot. In another incident, Alina Shaikh, 11, was electrocuted while returning home.

Officials reported that 270 people were relocated in Navsari district alone, with dozens more moved in Surat. The downpour disrupted movement on several roads, including the main road connecting the two districts, and city bus services were halted.

The rain has been unrelenting, causing waterlogging and affecting daily life. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected communities.
