Heavy Rain Lashes Mumbai, Thane; Orange and Red Alerts in Place
Heavy rain continued to lash Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar on Friday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for Mumbai and a red alert for Thane.
This marks the fifth consecutive day of heavy showers in the region. While the city recorded only 18 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm at IMD observatories, the intensity increased significantly after evening.
According to data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the heaviest rainfall between 8 am on Thursday and 6 am on Friday was recorded in Mandavi (150 mm), followed by Malabar Hill (145 mm), Fort (140 mm), Andheri (136 mm), Versova (129 mm), Powai (124 mm), and Bhandup (117 mm).
Waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, causing inconvenience to commuters. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel.
