Health Minister JP Nadda and MoS Jitendra Singh Visit Activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, met climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Tuesday, according to hospital sources.
Wangchuk, who is known for his innovative educational initiatives in Ladakh and his advocacy for environmental and cultural preservation, was admitted to the hospital earlier this week for treatment of an undisclosed ailment. The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, focused on Wangchuk's health status and his ongoing work, officials said.
Nadda inquired about Wangchuk's recovery and assured him of all necessary medical support. Dr. Jitendra Singh, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, discussed regional development issues and Wangchuk's contributions to education in Ladakh.
Sonam Wangchuk gained national attention for his 'Climate Fast' protest in 2023, demanding action on climate change and recognition of Ladakh's vulnerable ecosystem. He is also the founder of the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), which promotes alternative education models.
The visit by senior ministers underscores the government's engagement with civil society voices, particularly on issues related to environment and education in border regions. No official statement was issued by the Health Ministry or the Prime Minister's Office following the meeting.
