Hathras: Government SUV Hits Motorcycle, Two Dead, One Injured

A 56-year-old man and his six-year-old grandson were killed, and another person was injured, after a speeding government vehicle allegedly struck their motorcycle in the Salempur area of Hathras district on Friday evening, police said.

The deceased were identified as Subhash Chandra, a resident of Thulai village, and his grandson Daksh. According to police, Chandra was returning home with Daksh after taking him out for food. A villager, Sonu (38), was also accompanying them on the motorcycle.

The accident occurred when the three were crossing the road, and a Bolero bearing the word “Magistrate” rammed into the two-wheeler. The Bolero was reportedly travelling from Hathras towards Sikandra Rao at the time, police said.

Chandra and his grandson died on the spot. Sonu sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Bagla District Hospital, where he received first aid before being referred to a higher medical centre. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination, police added.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sadar Raj Bahadur Singh visited the district hospital after being informed about the accident and confirmed that two people had died and one was injured. “Initial information suggests that the accident involved a government vehicle,” he said.

Hathras Junction Station House Officer Lalit Kumar said the vehicle belonged to Naib Tehsildar Ashok Gupta and was moving towards Sikandra Rao. The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident, he added.

A witness, Darshan, alleged that the Bolero was travelling at a very high speed and that the person travelling in the SUV did not assist the injured and left the location. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the conduct of government vehicle drivers in the district. Senior officials have assured that strict action will be taken as per the law.
