Haryana's draft voter list sees 16.39% deletions; claims window from July 31
The Election Department of Haryana published the draft roll for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on Friday, revealing that 16.39% of names were deleted in this initial stage. This places Haryana third among states that have completed the exercise so far, behind Arunachal Pradesh (19.09%) and Uttar Pradesh (18.7%).
According to a statement from the Chief Electoral Officer, 83.61% of the state's registered electors submitted their enumeration forms and made it to the draft roll. The remaining 16.39% were marked as shifted, absent, deceased, or enrolled at multiple locations, leading to their removal.
The SIR is currently underway in 16 states and three Union Territories, with 10 states and three UTs having completed the process. Andhra Pradesh also published its draft roll on Friday, showing 10.78% deletions.
Data from the Haryana Election Department indicates that as of July 24, 2026, out of 2,06,55,929 electors, a total of 1,72,72,627 submitted their enumeration forms, reflecting participation of approximately 83.6%. Officials described the door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as one of the most comprehensive drives undertaken so far.
During verification, 24.13 lakh voters (11.68% of the electorate) could not be traced at their registered addresses. Many had relocated, were absent for extended periods, or failed to submit forms within the deadline. Separately, 7.66 lakh voters (3.71%) were found to be deceased, and 2.04 lakh voters (0.99%) had names registered in two or more constituencies.
Election officials said that after document verification, voters will be allowed to retain registration at only one location, and duplicate entries will be removed. The department emphasised that the SIR aims not just to enroll new voters but to create a clean, reliable and up-to-date electoral roll by removing names of deceased, migrated and duplicate voters.
To address concerns, the department clarified that voters whose names were omitted or whose forms were not collected need not worry. A claims and objections period will be held from July 31 to August 30, 2026, during which citizens can apply for inclusion, request deletions or corrections, or file objections. A total of 90 EROs and 1,601 AEROs will scrutinise these cases before the final roll is published.
The Election Commission credited District Election Officers of all 23 districts, along with 90 EROs, 1,594 AEROs, 2,244 BLO Supervisors and 20,629 BLOs deployed at 20,629 polling stations, for the successful completion of the enumeration phase.
