Harmanpreet to Lead India's 20-Member Squad for Men's Hockey World Cup

India on Tuesday announced a 20-member squad for the Men's Hockey World Cup, scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 30. Captain Harmanpreet Singh, the ace drag-flicker and defender who led India to a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will lead the side.

The squad was selected from the 24-member Pro League squad, with four players omitted due to the tournament's squad-size limit. Defender Amandeep Lakra, midfielders Raj Kumar Pal and Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, and forward Selvam Karthi were not included in the final roster.

Veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh, India's most-capped player, brings valuable experience to a team that blends established stars with promising youngsters. India's recent performance in the FIH Pro League saw them finish eighth among nine teams, with four wins, five draws and seven losses, just above Pakistan. The team will aim to improve upon that showing in the World Cup.
