Gurugram Police Arrest Man for Assaulting Woman Cab Driver Over Obscene Video
Gurugram police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a woman cab driver and showing her an obscene video on his mobile phone, officials said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Arjun Kamawat, was taken into custody following a complaint filed by the woman.
According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday at a charging station in the DLF Phase-3 area. The woman had parked her vehicle for charging when Kamawat parked his vehicle beside hers. He then began playing an obscene video on his phone, deliberately angling the screen towards her. When the woman objected to his behaviour, the accused allegedly abused her and physically assaulted her.
The woman, who is employed with a tourist transport company, managed to capture the incident on her mobile phone. She later uploaded the video on social media platforms, where it was widely shared, drawing the attention of both the public and the police.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case at the DLF Sector-29 police station and launched an investigation. The accused, a native of Parsa village in Madhubani district, Bihar, was residing in Nathupur, DLF Phase-3, Gurugram, at the time of the incident.
"A case has been registered and the accused has been arrested. He is being questioned in connection with the incident. Legal proceedings will follow the law, and the investigation is underway," a police spokesperson said.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the safety of women working in the transportation sector. Women cab drivers often work alone, and incidents of harassment can leave them particularly vulnerable. Police have urged women drivers to remain cautious and report any such incidents without delay.
