Gurugram encounter: Four suspects killed, one injured in police operation after attack on businessman's home
Four alleged shooters were killed and one injured in a police encounter in Gurugram's upscale Sushant Lok Phase-2 late on Thursday evening, after they opened fire at the house of a prominent businessman, according to officials.
Police said the Crime Branch received information through the control room about armed men roaming in a black Sports Utility Vehicle. While searching the area, police found that the businessman had been receiving repeated threats and extortion calls from a gangster based abroad.
"When police reached the spot, the accused started firing at the businessman's house with sophisticated weapons," Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sadar, Dharambir Singh told reporters. "On being challenged, they also fired at the police. In self-defence, police retaliated."
In the exchange of fire, all five suspects were hit. They were taken to a hospital, where four were declared dead. One is undergoing treatment. Three police personnel were also injured in the encounter and are receiving medical care, according to officials.
Police stated that the businessman's house was targeted with gunfire. The identities of the deceased and details of the extortion amount have not been confirmed. The role of any specific gang is under investigation.
Yellow crime scene tape was put up at the spot as senior police officers briefed the media late at night. Further investigation is underway to determine the gang link and motive behind the attack.
