Gulveer Singh Creates History with 10,000m Silver at Commonwealth Games

Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian man to win a medal in the 10,000m event at the Commonwealth Games. The national record holder clocked an impressive 27 minutes 49.8 seconds at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow to secure the silver medal.

Gulveer finished second behind Australian Ky Robinson, who took gold with a time of 27:48.93 seconds. The bronze medal went to David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man. This marks a notable achievement for India in distance running.

This is the first time since the 1986 Commonwealth Games that an African athlete has not finished in the top three of the men's 10,000m. Gulveer's silver is reminiscent of Avinash Sable's silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase during the 2022 edition, where he broke the Kenyan domination with a race of a lifetime.
