Gujarat government provides free textbooks to students in flood-hit areas

The Gujarat government has announced that it will provide free textbooks to students in areas affected by recent floods caused by incessant rainfall. The decision was made proactively by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board, which will supply new textbooks to all students of government and grant-in-aid schools whose books were damaged due to waterlogging.

Manubhai Pavra, executive president of the board, stated that the move was taken after consultation with ministers. He noted that while no formal requests had been received from schools or students, the board anticipated that textbooks may have been damaged in homes or schools due to the floods. The board will assess the exact number of students and schools affected once it receives requests from individual schools.

The floods, caused by heavy rains in recent weeks, have affected several districts in Gujarat, leading to waterlogging and damage to property. The government's initiative aims to ensure that students' education is not disrupted due to the loss of study materials. The textbooks will be distributed immediately to those who need them.

This is one of several relief measures announced by the state government following the floods. The government has also deployed teams for rescue and relief operations, and is working to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
