Gujarat Farmers End Fast, Vow to Continue Protest Over Adani Power Line Compensation

Farmers protesting the installation of a 756 kV double-circuit transmission line by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) in Gujarat's Morbi district have ended their fast at Jetpar village but vowed to continue the agitation as a 'satyagraha'. They expressed dissatisfaction with the Government Resolution (GR) on compensation issued by the Gujarat government.

The project, implemented by Halvad Transmission Ltd (a Special Purpose Vehicle of AESL), aims to evacuate additional power from the Renewable Energy Park in Khavda, Kutch, through transmission lines spanning 246 km.

On July 4, the Gujarat government issued a GR awarding double the market rate as compensation for land taken to install power transmission towers and lines, with payment to be made in advance. However, farmers have demanded further clarity on the terms.

The protest began on June 7. The 'Upwas Chhavni' (fasting camp) will now be converted into a 'Satyagraha Chhavni' for the third phase of the protest, which will continue as a non-violent agitation.
