Govt forms study group to boost Indian cinema globally; Prasoon Joshi to lead

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has constituted a study group to examine the opportunities and challenges faced by the Indian film industry and recommend measures to enhance its global competitiveness.

The group, comprising industry experts and technology partners, will be chaired by Prasar Bharati CEO Prasoon Joshi. It is expected to submit its report to the ministry within three months.

The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, according to a ministry statement.

The study group will focus on making Indian films more competitive internationally and assess the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual production on cinema. It will also suggest ways for filmmakers to leverage these tools and access institutional finance and new funding options for film production.
