Gold Jewellery Worth Over 90 Sovereigns Stolen in Theni District

Unidentified burglars have stolen 90 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹3 lakh in cash from a locked residence in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. The incident came to light when the homeowner, Lakshmi (53), returned from a family trip to Velankanni on [date] and found the lock broken and valuables missing.

Lakshmi is the wife of the late Selvaraj, a retired Sub-Inspector of Police who passed away a few months ago. According to police, the house had been locked securely before the family left for their pilgrimage. The theft is believed to have occurred during their absence.

The Palanichettipatti police have registered a case and launched an investigation. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are examining possible leads. The stolen gold, estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees, represents a significant loss for the family.

This incident highlights concerns about home security in the area, particularly for households that may be left unattended for extended periods. Police have urged residents to take precautions such as informing neighbours or using security systems when away.
