Ghaziabad Man, 58, Arrested for Rape of Two-and-a-Half-Year-Old Girl

A 58-year-old man has been arrested in Ghaziabad for allegedly raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, police said on Saturday. The incident took place around 11 am when the child was playing outside her home with siblings.

The accused, a labourer, took the girl to a secluded spot near the residence, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali) Upasana Pandey. The girl's parents work as a labourer and domestic help respectively. The suspect and the victim's family are not related and live about 3-4 km apart.

A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for aggravated penetrative sexual assault and under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape has been registered following a complaint by the girl's family. The accused has been taken into custody and legal proceedings are underway.

Police have not disclosed further details to protect the victim's identity. The child is receiving medical care and support. The case highlights the vulnerability of young children in urban and semi-urban areas, and the need for community vigilance.
