From Dreams to Degrees: Career Guidance Uplifts Adolescent Girls in Coimbatore

In a significant step towards bridging the opportunity gap, adolescent girls from underserved communities received comprehensive career guidance at the 17th edition of Udyog Utsav 2026 in Coimbatore. The event, organised by Avtar Human Capital Trust (AHCT) in partnership with Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, aimed to introduce these young women to higher education and emerging career pathways.

The conference is the flagship initiative of Project Puthri, an AHCT programme that supports adolescent girls through career counselling, mentorship, and exposure to higher education. The project seeks to equip them with the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue academic and professional goals.

Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Managing Director of Avtar Career Creators Limited and Managing Trustee of AHCT, addressed the gathering, emphasising that career choices should never be left to chance, particularly for girls who may lack adequate guidance. She stated that helping young girls identify their strengths and explore diverse career options would enable them to make informed decisions about their future, while creating a positive impact on their families and communities.

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja underscored the importance of empowering girls through education and career guidance for building stronger communities. He noted that initiatives like Project Puthri broaden students’ aspirations, build their confidence, and enable them to make informed choices.

The event featured the Project Puthri pledge, distribution of scholarships to deserving students, scholar interaction sessions, a self-defence workshop, and exhibition stalls set up by educational institutions and corporate organisations. These activities provided practical exposure and networking opportunities for the participants.
