Free TGSRTC bus travel for NEET-UG re-exam candidates on June 21, announces Minister

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has announced free travel in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses for candidates appearing for the NEET (UG) re-examination scheduled on June 21.

The announcement came in response to an appeal from the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) State committee. Mr. Prabhakar stated that the matter would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to facilitate the free bus travel, and that all candidates carrying their hall tickets will be entitled to the benefit on the day of the re-examination.

The Minister made the statement on Wednesday while undertaking a bus journey from Thimmapur to Karimnagar along with Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar. The ride was aimed at gathering first-hand feedback from passengers on bus services, including the Mahalakshmi free travel scheme for women and transgender persons.

Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Prabhakar said TGSRTC has become a model public transport entity in the country through pioneering initiatives that economically empower women. He highlighted that the Congress government not only provides free bus travel for women but has also empowered them by enabling women self-help groups to own buses. The government’s initiatives, he added, have bolstered TGSRTC, which now has a fleet of over 10,000 buses, including newly-inducted electric vehicles.

On labour-related matters, the Transport Minister said the process for recognised union elections has already begun and that a committee comprising leaders of the recognised union and officials will complete the TGSRTC merger process soon after the elections. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of TGSRTC workers.

During the same media interaction, Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar strongly rebutted allegations by BRS leader T. Harish Rao of a ₹2,000 crore scam in the Welfare departments. Terming the allegations as baseless, Mr. Laxman Kumar challenged Mr. Rao to prove the charges.
