Four Rounds Fired at Belagavi Gymkhana Club, Police Investigate Attempted Murder

Belagavi police are investigating an incident of firing at the Gymkhana club in the military camp area of Belagavi old city on the night of July 14. According to officials, four rounds were fired in the posterior area of the club where some persons were playing cards.

Police personnel from the adjoining street, upon hearing the shots, rushed to the club. The club is located within walking distance of the city police commissioner’s office.

Staff on duty told police that an attempt was made to kill Suresh Jalgar. As many as five persons arrived at the club late in the evening. Two stood outside while the rest entered the Rummy room. An altercation broke out while they were playing cards. The trio got into a fight with Suresh Jalgar. One person hit him on the head with a revolver butt. Then, they shot two rounds at him. He survived. The trio fired two rounds in the air while Suresh Jalgar managed to flee from the spot.

A team of officers, including Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao and Deputy Commissioner Niranjan Raje Urs, visited the spot. They spoke to the staff and some members of the club.

Police sources say the incident was captured on CCTV camera. Officers are examining the footage. Further investigation is underway.
